Bill Sparks 2023William M. Sparks   1945 - 2023

My father, William (Bill) Sparks, passed away sadly but comfortably  Sunday morning, surrounded by his family. He was a kind and loving man with a heart of gold.  There are so many who loved him and will feel this loss –  in the business world and far beyond.  He would say thank you to all of his small-business customer for their support, and he would wish everyone peace and happiness. I have run the William M. Sparks Insurance Agency for many years now, and I will continue to run it just as my father did and as he would want me to do.  On behalf of my family, I thank you all for your kind words, well wishes and support at this time.   --- Danielle Sparks

Group life insurance can be structured in many ways, perhaps taking the form of a voluntary insurance program for your employees who pay their premiums using a payroll deduction system that you administer.  In this type of program, it would likely be possible to offer whole life insurance as opposed to term life insurance.

Workers Compensation Insurance for MD, VA, PA Businesses

Making your workplace safe is certainly one of your top priorities.  Even so, accidents can happen.  Having Workers Compensation insurance protects your company from litigation and covers injured employees’ expenses.

Here at the William M. Sparks Insurance Agency in Lutherville / Timonium, Maryland (Baltimore County), we know the state guidelines and will help you comply with your state’s requirements whether you do business in Maryland (MD), Virginia (VA) or Pennsylvania (PA).

Workers Comp Insurance Required by Most States

In almost all states, employers are required to carry Workers Compensation insurance – or “workers comp” as it is commonly called.  This insurance protects you as an employer against lawsuits arising from workers injured on the job or developing work-related illness – whether it occurs on your workplace premises or elsewhere, including cases of business-related traffic accidents.  Workers comp coverage applies regardless of who was at fault.

Scope of Workers Comp Coverage

Typically, Workers Compensation will pay for the following:

  • Time lost from work
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Medical/surgical services

Your state dictates the duration and amount of lost wage benefits as well as guidelines for coverage of medical and rehab services, benefit disputes, etc.

Because of the nature of this type of insurance, your business insurance package will not include it.  It is necessary to carry a separate policy for Workers Comp insurance.

Business Auto / Commercial Vehicle Insurance

Covering your business auto and other commercial vehicles against losses is an important part of your business insurance portfolio.  Many variations and options exist to assure that you have the right coverage for your vehicles for your particular operation. Here in Lutherville / Timonium, Maryland, at the William M. Sparks Insurance Agency,  we know the guidelines for your state, and we can help you sort out the options and create a policy that perfectly fits your needs. It is strongly advised that your commercial auto insurance policy carry the same basic coverages that you carry on your personal vehicle insurance.

Commercial Auto Coverages Usually Include:

  • Comprehensive coverage – pays for theft or damage to your car caused by something other than a collision.
  • Collision coverage – pays for damage to your business automobile during an accident.
  • Liability coverage – covers damage that you cause to someone else’s vehicle or property.
  • Personal injury protection – pays for injuries to you and your passengers and can cover lost wages, medical payments and even funeral expenses.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage – further pays when an at-fault driver’s insurance is not sufficient to cover your loss.

Even though the basic coverages are much the same as your personal auto coverages, a policy for business vehicles differs in many important ways; and there are many possible variations and options, depending upon your business circumstances and needs.

For business-owned vehicles, it is important to show the name of the business on the commercial auto insurance policy as the ‘principal insured’, especially if you use the car for both business and personal transportation.  By doing so, if someone files a claim against you or you must file a claim, there will be no confusion.

With the many options and variations you have to consider for business vehicle coverage, you will find that the experienced representatives a the William M. Sparks Insurance Agency  can make the process of purchasing commercial auto insurance an easy one.  So contact us today to discuss your needs.
